We all have cravings for something sweat, maybe you want something salty. When you first start a balanced eating program, like the Beachbody 21 Day Fix, your cravings may elevate as your body is trying to detox from sugars and unhealthy fats.
Once you get over that hump, the constant cravings subside, and you start to get a handle on healthier eating.
I like to think over the past 6 years I worked to get my eating in check … most of the time. But every once in a while, a craving for chocolate or a nice greasy burger (Pajo's cheeseburger is my weakness) creeps into my system.
I do my best to fight it off, but sometimes the battle is too difficult. I become obsessed over wanting that treat. It bugs me after every meal. And so I finally cave. In the past I would get down on myself. Upset I messed up a good eating streak. What I have learned over the years, if I give in to that one little indulgence, I quickly get over it. I feed the craving, and the craving then goes away. Not just for a day, but for a while. Then I can move on and easily get back on track.
I had a day like that this past weekend; and I have moved on. I ramped up a workout the next day to compensate for it, and it was in my past.
What I would like to clarify is these cravings don't happen all the time. Chocolate seems to be once a month ;-). I am at my goal weight, and I exercise regularly and consistently. If you are just starting out, in the middle of your journey or cruising in maintenance, don't get down on yourself for occasionally caving. Tomorrow is a new day, so pick up your pace and keep moving forward.
