It took me a long time to get into running. At the age of 27 I started with a learn to run 10k program for the Vancouver Sun Run. What helped with the motivation, and made it more enjoyable, was having a friend that did the 3 day per week walk-run program with me. For 13 weeks we rarely missed a session together after work.
It only took 13 weeks, and I became a runner! For almost 15 years now, running has been a consistent part of my exercise routine (except for a 6 year hiatus during the pregnancy years, but that is a story for another time).
While I'm motivated to run on my own, it definitely is more enjoyable when you have someone to talk to. This goes for weight training too.
I am fortunate to have several like-minded friends who will join me on a run or in the gym.
